Sample a Track From the EXCEPTION Soundtrack by Ryuichi Sakamoto – OST Due Oct 14

Ryuichi Sakamoto has composed the soundtrack for the upcoming Netflix anime series, EXCEPTION. The series takes place in a far future in which humanity has been driven from Earth and forced to move its population to another galaxy. Members of a scouting team are sent to search for a planet suitable for terraforming. The crew is created through a biological 3D printer, but a system malfunction causes one of the crew members, Lewis, to emerge in a deformed state. As Lewis turns on his fellow crew members Nina, Mack, Patty and Oscar, a countdown to the end of the mission begins in the frightening darkness of the ship.

An all-star staff including writer Hirotaka Adachi (aka Otsuichi), character designer Yoshitaka Amano, composer Ryuichi Sakamoto and director Yuzo Sato presents a completely original space horror sci-fi story, essentially asking ‘what makes us human?’

“I wanted to make the main theme a symphonic piece – the kind that has become a staple in science fiction since STAR WARS. As for the soundtrack as a whole, I worked towards keeping it darkly ambient, wanting it to feel like one piece of music rather than separated by scene,” explains Sakamoto. “That said, I did include a degree of harsh sounds in the fighting scenes. Overall, I was able to make a soundtrack I like very much.”

The soundtrack is due for release October 14th via Milan Records; pre-order through these links.

As a preview, Sakamoto has shared a cue titled “Oxygen” from the score – listen to this track ahead of the soundtrack’s full release on October 14th, via Milan Records (then, below it, watch the EXCEPTION trailer):
