GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE Soundtrack by Rob Simonsen Due Nov. 19th – Sample 2 Tracks Today
Sony Classical will be releasing Rob Simonsen’s score for GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE on November 19th. The label has released two of the composer’s tracks (“Lab Partners” and “Mini-Pufts”) today – listen to them below. “Lab Partners” offers a delicious arrangement of Elmer Bernstein’s theme from the original GHOSTBUSTERS movie (1984). (Incidentally, Randy Edelman’s score for the sequel, GHOSTBUSTERS II, was recently released for the first time on CD by Sony.)
“The Goldsmithian/Silvestriesque vibes from this track by Rob Simonsen for the new Ghostbusters film are utterly delightful,” writes Erik Woods of the Scores & Soundtracks Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/35343836731/. “The orchestrations are dazzling. The Ondes Martenot is back! Great to hear music of this sort again in a modern blockbuster!”
Simonsen rejoins director Jason Reitman with his score for GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE, having scored THE FRONT RUNNER and TULLY for the director. Other recent film scores include The Friend, The Way Back, and Love, Simon. Based in Los Angeles and ever with his finger on the pulse of contemporary music, he co-founded the influential collective The Echo Society with the mission ‘to inspire, challenge, enrich and connect the community through the creation and performance of new sonic and visual art’. Simonsen’s debut artist album Rêveries was released in 2019 on Sony Masterworks.
GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE is co-written and directed by Jason Reitman and stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhar, Mckenna Grace, Annie Potts, and Paul Rudd. The film follows a single mom and her two kids who arrive in a small town, where they begin to discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.
The comedy will be released in theaters nationwide on November 19 by Sony Pictures.
