DARK PHOENIX Soundtrack from Hans Zimmer Releases June 7
– Randall D. Larson
Hans Zimmer’s score for the new X-Men movie DARK PHOENIX will release digitally on June 7th from Fox Music. A CD version is also said to be in the works.
Zimmer, who had famously stated in 2016 that he was retiring from scoring superhero films, had a change of mind after director Simon Kinberg met with him about scoring his new X-Men movie. In a video interview with Steve ‘Frosty’ Weintraub video interview with Zimmer for Collider (posted on youtube), Zimmer explained: “I had lost my voice, somehow. I didn’t have any new ideas [for superhero movies], and I don’t want to ever phone it in. I don’t want to ever not have an idea, so I made some sort of blanket statement: “Never…!” And Ron Howard, who I really consider a man of great wisdom and a great friend, quietly said to me, ‘You know Hans, you should never say no, you should say I’m waiting for a great story. The genre doesn’t matter, you want a great story.’ And so Simon showed up in Montreal [where Hans was putting on one of his live concerts] with the whole cast and everybody, for one of the shows, and we just had a chat about what he wanted to do, and I did have an idea of something I had always wanted to try, and it just so happens that it seems to fit into that sort of a movie.”
Not long thereafter, Hans also signed to compose the music for WONDER WOMAN 1984, sequel to the 2017 film, scored by Rupert Gregson-Williams. “The Wonder Woman motif is mine,” Zimmer told Collider. “We had done it live, and it became more and more interesting and I just thought it was important to, more or less, finish it. And Patty [Jenkins, director] called me and she had a really interesting idea, again, the story she is going to tell… it’s a story I want to be part of.”
WONDER WOMAN 1984 is scheduled for release on June 5, 2020. You can bet a soundtrack will be released. Watch this site for details in about a year!
