Mark Isham returns to score Marvel’s CLOAK & DAGGER Season 2
– Randall D. Larson
Marvel’s CLOAK & DAGGER is back for season 2, and Mark Isham is on board to continue scoring the adventures of Tandy Bowen (Dagger) and Tyrone Johnson (Cloak), two teenagers from very different backgrounds who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers which are mysteriously linked to one another. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.
The second season of the American cable television series, based on the Marvel Comics characters of the same name, sees Tandy and Tyrone use their superpowers together. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films and other television series of the franchise.
Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph star as Bowen and Johnson, with Gloria Reuben, Andrea Roth, Miles Mussenden, and Emma Lahana also starring. The season is produced by ABC Signature Studios, Marvel Television, and Wandering Rocks Productions, with Pokaski serving as showrunner. The series was renewed for a second season in July 2018, with filming beginning that October.
Mark Isham has created critically acclaimed scores for over 100 films, including CRASH, A RIVER RUNS THROUGH IT, for which he received a Best Original Score Oscar nomination, NEVER CRY WOLF, MEGAN LEAVEY, and TV’s ONCE UPON A TIME and AMERICAN CRIME. In 2013, Isham was recognized with the Distinguished Film Composer Award at the inaugural Middleburg Film Festival along with a concert by the Shenandoah Conservatory Symphony Orchestra of his memorable scores.
The music for the series is “all electronic, with a lot of pop songs that we interact with and cut up,” Isham said in an interview for kadenze.com when he first started scoring Season 1. “It’s pretty unique for Marvel.”
CLOAK & DAGGER’S second season is scheduled to be released on April 4, 2019, with ten episodes, on Freeform.
