Science Fiction Robot Dog Movie A.X.L. Soundtrack released

axl_600Ian Hultquist (LOVE AND BANANAS: AN ELEPHANT STORY, ASSASSINATION NATION) has scored A.X.L., the new science fiction movie about a top-secret, robotic dog created by the military to help protect tomorrow’s soldiers. Code named by the scientists who created him, A.X.L. stands for Attack, Exploration, Logistics, and embodies the most advanced, next-generation artificial intelligence. After an experiment gone wrong, A.X.L. escapes and develops a special friendship with a kind-hearted outsider who rescues him. Finding a way to connect with him after activating his owner-pairing technology. Together, the two develop a special friendship, including facing off against the scientists who created him and who will do anything to get him back.

Hultquist’s score mixes electronica with dubstep and pop-music elements, exemplifying both the robotic and human/adult and teenager components of the story. “This score was interesting to make because we really wanted to make a mix of “blockbuster score meets pop song production,” Hultquist told writer Wesley Lara in an interview for the hiddenremote website. “It’s a full on adventure film with heroes & villains, so we needed that wide scope – however, our main characters are teenagers & we wanted the music to feel like it could still relate to them. It was really fun mixing those two sonic worlds together.”

Lakeshore Records has released a digital soundtrack on April 24th.  Reportedly Apple Music will issue an exclusive version with bonus tracks.
