Buzz LIGHTYEAR Origin Story Coming From Pixar in 2022
LIGHTYEAR is an upcoming American sci-fi action-adventure computer animated film produced by Pixar set to be released on June 17, 2022. Originally announced last December, the film’s teaser trailer was released today (watch it below). The film is a spin-off of the TOY STORY franchise and tells the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Chris Evans [CAPTAIN AMERICA]) – the hero who inspired the toy. This is not a story about the Toy Story action figure or the cartoon Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, but the origin of the in-universe astronaut who inspired the cartoon and toys, which reveals how a young test pilot became the Space Ranger that we all know him to be today.
LIGHTYEAR will be Pixar’s 26th animated feature, and the studio’s first film of the 2020s to be produced in a 2:39:1 aspect ratio since SOUL, unlike LUCA and TURNING RED, which were produced in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio.
LIGHTYEAR is directed by Angus MacLane (FINDING DORY, TOY STORY OF TERROR TV short, TOY STORY TOONS: SMALL FRY short). Beyond Evans, other voice cast members include Nika Futterman, Jim Carrey, and Cary Elwes.
A composer for the film has not yet been announced (although guitarist George Doering is shown in IMDB as a musician assigned to the project; Doering is an acclaimed musician who has performed on many film scores). – via DisneyFandom.com, IMDB, and YouTube.
