Fresh from THE RITUAL, Ben Lovett’s score to the Netflix folk horror film, film music fans can find his next dark music revelation in the form of THE WIND. Emma Tammi’s directorial debut is a supernatural horror Western set in the late 1800s, about a plains-woman driven mad by isolation, as a supernatural force haunts the untamed lands where she resides. It’s the latest modern example of the genre of folk horror along the lines of THE VVITCH, THE RITUAL, WAKE WOOD, and others.

The film was written by Teresa Sutherland and stars Caitlin Gerard (INSIDIOUS: THE LAST KEY), Ashley Zukerman, Julia Goldani Telles and Miles Anderson. The movie was executive produced by Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath through their Divide/Conquer banner, along with John H. Lang, and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2018

“Lovett’s score is also a major factor in establishing the unshakable dread associated with the evil you know is haunting the land, as is the impeccable sound design that provides one bone-chilling jolt after the next.” wrote Perri Nemiroff in a review of the film posted after its festival premiere at Collider.

IFC Midnight presents THE WIND, in select US theaters and VOD on Friday, April 5 (see trailer below). Ben Lovett’s score will be released digitally via Lakeshore Records on the same date.

THE WIND: An unseen evil haunts the homestead in this chilling, folkloric tale of madness, paranoia, and otherworldly terror. Lizzy (Caitlin Gerard) is a tough, resourceful frontierswoman settling a remote stretch of land on the 19th-century American frontier. Isolated from civilization in a desolate wilderness where the wind never stops howling, she begins to sense a sinister presence that seems to be borne of the land itself, an overwhelming dread that her husband (Ashley Zukerman) dismisses as superstition. When a newlywed couple arrives on a nearby homestead, their presence amplifies Lizzy’s fears, setting into motion a shocking chain of events. Masterfully blending haunting visuals with pulse-pounding sound design, director Emma Tammi evokes a godforsaken world in which the forces of nature come alive with quivering menace.
