Digital EP of Songs by LOONER for Horror Film THE SHED Released
Recently, Zoë Poledouris and her husband and musical partner Angel Roché Jr., known together as the band LOONER, were hired to write songs for THE SHED, a horror movie by director Frank Sabatella. Starring Jay Jay Warren, Cody Kostro, Sofia Happonen, and Timothy Bottoms, the film has to do with a hunter who gets bitten by a vampire and runs into a shed to avoid sunlight; the neophyte vampire is soon discovered in that shed by two teenage kids who—having endured nonstop torment from bullies at school—realize the bloodthirsty creature is the answer to solving their bully problems. Composer Sam Ewing provided the film’s underscore.
The LOONER songs included two that were written specifically by Zoë and Angel for the movie: a hauntingly dark reimagining of The Animals’ 1964 version of “House of the Rising Sun” called “Rising Sun Blues,” as well as a Nirvana-inspired song called “No More Cheers.” The third song included in the film is “Over Now,” originally heard on the band’s 2003 debut album “Follow the LOONER.”
After consistent requests to download/purchase the songs, Angel and Zoë have packaged the three songs used in the film and, with the blessings of the movie’s producers and director, released it to the world on their boutique label, Avian Recording Company.
“The reimagining of the Animals’ ‘House of The Rising Sun’ was specifically requested by production,” Angel told Musique Fantastique. “We listened to the many different versions of this old American folk/blues song but leaned on the Animals’ iconic version the most. It was the idea of the director Frank Sabatella and music supervisor Joel C. High. We happily obliged and let all of our gothic/dark wave, alt rock tendencies get the better of us. We were all quite pleased with the way it turned out.”
THE SHED (Original Songs from the Motion Picture) is a digital release that will soon be available via all the major outlets (iTunes, Tidal, Amazon, Spotify, Google, Deezer, etc.). In the meantime, you can listen to “Rising Sun Blues” on the distrokid hyperfollow page, where you can pre-save the EP to your respective Spotify account; once the EP is released, an email announcement automatically goes out to those who pre-saved.
