Kenneth Lampl & Kirsten Axelholm’s  Score for Futuristic Aussie S.F. Thriller 2067 Gets a Soundtrack from Milan

– Randall D. Larson

2067 is a 2020 Australian science fiction mystery thriller film directed by Seth Larney (TOMBIRUO, HIPSTERS TV docu.) and starring Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ryan Kwanten, and Sana’a Shaik. The movie is set on earth in the future, after it has been devastated by climate change, with its human inhabitants forced to use artificial oxygen to stay alive. Ethan Whyte (Smit-McPhee) is an arrogant tunnel worker who journeys through time to save the world.

The film is scored by Kirsten Axelholm and Kenneth Lampl, who previously collaborated on the 2019 Australian horror/action film THE FURIES (which releases in the US this October 20, see article here). Kenneth Lampl is an American composer and lecturer known for his film, television and choral music. He is the former head of the Australian National University School of Music, and has sored 70 films. He began collaborating on film scoring with his Danish composing partner and wife Kirsten Axelholm in 2017 on the short films DARK DARK WOODS and WHALE HEART.

The composers provide a rich, powerful symphonic score for 2067, which British film music journalist Jon Mansel has described as “a riveting and haunting work. With strings seeming to be the main stay of the work, with synthetics contributing much to support these and other instrumentation that is utilized. The sound achieved by the composers is an interesting and rewarding one, which begins right off with the opening being grand and attention grabbing, which can also be said for around ninety percent of the score, with the remainder having to it a lilting and somewhat melancholy leaning.” (Read Mansell’s full review in Soundtrack Supplement 23).

Milan released a digital soundtrack of the 2067 score last September, currently available on Amazon.
