Williams’ HARRY POTTER scores, Arnold’s THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, Kilar’s BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA, TV’s LAND OF THE GIANTS among La-La Land’s deluxe December releases
La-La Land Records has announced an astonishing collection of five multiple-CD deluxe sets, including two box sets, for its December releases – a holiday soundtrack gift of five significant limited editions releases that can only be described as must-haves for soundtrack collectors!
HARRY POTTER: The John Williams Soundtrack Collection is a 7-CD box set containing John Williams’ newly-remastered, restored, and expanded scores for the first three films in the HARRY POTTER series: HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER’S STONE (2001), HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS (2002) and HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN (2004). This deluxe presentation is composer-approved and contains a bounty of previously unreleased music, featuring a total running time of just under eight hours. Produced, assembled, and mastered by Mike Matessino, all three scores were fully remastered from the original 5.1 and stereo mixes. For SORCERER’S STONE, the original analog master tapes were newly transferred at high resolution and the score was meticulously re-edited and output from the first-generation material for maximum quality. Housed in an attractive hardcover slipcase and featuring a 44-page booklet featuring general music information and track listings for all three scores, this set is a limited edition release of 5000 units.
BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA: Limited Edition (3-CD Set) is a remastered and expanded re-issue of acclaimed composer Wojciech Kilar’s original score to Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 feature film starring Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, and Anthony Hopkins. Composer Kilar’s score is a breathtaking work – a lush, masterful orchestral swirl of dread, beauty, suspense and sensuality… The perfect complement to Coppola’s surreal gothic masterwork. Disc One and Two of this deluxe re-issue presents the premiere of Kilar’s “composed score,” his music as originally written for the film. Disc Two also features a bounty of alternate bonus cues from this material. Disc Three showcases the original 1992 album assembly, remastered, with additional bonus tracks. Produced by Dan Goldwasser and mastered by James Nelson, this special limited edition re-issue contains exclusive, in-depth liner notes from writer Tim Greiving and sumptuous, blood-thirsty art design by Goldwasser. This release is limited to 3000 units.
David Arnold’s second James Bond score, 1999’s THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH, gets the deluxe treatment in this remastered and expanded 2-CD re-issue of the original motion picture score. It’s an epic score that keeps breathless pace with agent 007 himself, musically matching all of the film’s globe-spanning adventure, drama, romance and suspense with sophistication and excitement. As he began with TOMORROW NEVER DIES, Arnold continues to push the contemporary edge of the score, while honoring the series’ classic musical legacy. Remastered and expanded, with previously unreleased music, this deluxe presentation showcases Arnold’s score in stellar fashion. Among this re-issue’s unreleased treasures are two early song demos performed by the composer. The official title song, performed by the band Garbage, is also contained in this program. Produced by David Arnold and Neil S. Bulk, and mastered by Doug Schwartz, from original stereo digital tapes provided by MGM, this special release is limited to 5000 units and features exclusive, in-depth liner notes by writer Tim Greiving, which include new comments from the composer and famed Bond lyricist Don Black as well as director Apted. The art design is by Dan Goldwasser, based on the original US poster for the film.
Moving back several decades, the label also presents LAND OF THE GIANTS – 50th Anniversary Soundtrack Collection: Limited Edition, a deluxe 4-CD box set of original music from the classic Irwin Allen 1960’s sci-fi/fantasy television series. Much of the music in this collection has been unreleased for 50 years, making its world premiere with this release; even John Williams’s score to “The Crash,” is released for the first time in its entirety. Score selections from episodes such as “Framed,” “The Flight Plan,” “Target: Earth,” “Shell Game,” “Home Sweet Home,” “Panic” are just a few titles that appear on the 4-CD track listing. Featuring music by Williams, Alexander Courage, Leith Stevens, Harry Geller, Artie Kane, Joseph Mullendore, Richard LaSalle, Robert Prince, Irving Gertz and Paul Sawtell, this deluxe set, limited to 1000 units, is produced for 20th Century Fox by Nick Redman, executive produced by Kevin Burns, produced by Jeff Bond and Neil Bulk, and mastered by James Nelson. The exclusive, in-depth liner notes are by co-album producer Bond and the fantastical art design is by Mark Banning.
Its outside of our usual genre coverage but very worthwhile mentioning is La-La Land’s SCHINDLER’S LIST – 25th ANNIVERSARY SOUNDTRACK: LIMITED EDITION
2-CD SET is presented in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the landmark Steven Spielberg film. This release of John Williams’ Oscar-winning score, showcases the original soundtrack assembly, sourced from the original 1993 release’s 24-karat gold Ultimate Masterdisc digital master on Disc One, while Disc Two contains previously unreleased tracks, sourced from engineer Shawn Murphy’s stereo digital masters, including two major cues that are now presented in the versions heard in the picture: “Schindler’s Workforce” and “I Could Have Done More,” both of which underwent revisions after the 1993 album had been prepared. This edition, produced, edited and mastered by Mike Matessino, is approved by composer John Williams and director Steven Spielberg. It is limited to 4000 units and features classic art design by Jim Titus and exclusive, in-depth liner notes by Matessino.
