Robert Eggers’ THE NORTHMAN Scored by Robin Carolan & Sebastian Gainsborough

The next film from Robert Eggers, director of the acclaimed thrillers THE WITCH and THE LIGHTHOUSE is THE NORTHMAN, an epic revenge thriller, set in Iceland at the turn of the 10th century, that explores how far a Viking prince will go to seek justice for his murdered father. The movie stars Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe, and Björk. Principal photography was to begin in March 2020 but was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming restarted in August 2020 and was completed in early December 2020. Focus Features will release The Northman in US theaters on April 8, 2022. While Universal Pictures International will release the film internationally on the same date.

The film features a score by Robin Carolan & Sebastian Gainsborough, the first film score for both composers.

British born Robin Carolan founded the Tri Angle record label in 2010, which was highly influential, particularly within the electronic-music scene, until Carolan closed the label in 2020. He has frequently worked with Bjork (a star of this film) on her music career.

Gainsborough is an electronic music producer and composer from Bristol, England who has recorded albums under the name Vessel, He began his career in 2010 as a purveyor of left-field, bass-driven electronica, using his unique sonic palate to create immersive compositions, exploring texture and tone, the organic and the man-made. He composed trailer music for Chan-wook Park’s THE HANDMAIDEN (2016).
