REMEMBER THE MANDELA EFFECT

November 10, 2019

Ohad Benchetrit & Justin Small Score forthcoming s.f. thriller THE MANDELA EFFECT

Synopsis: A man becomes obsessed with facts and events that have been collectively misremembered by thousands of people. Believing the phenomena to be the symptom of something larger, his obsession eventually leads him to question reality itself.

Director David Guy Levy made several short films and a pair of indie features, the 2011 drama A LOVE AFFAIR OF SORTS and the 2012 horror movie WOULD YOU RATHER; he co-wrote THE MANDELA EFFECT with Steffen Schlachtenhaufen, who also co-wrote WOULD YOU RATHER with Levy, and wrote & directed the 2007 horror movie PRIMAL. Levy and Schlachtenhaufen co-produced under the Periscope Entertainment banner.

The “Mandela Effect” refers to a situation in which a large mass of people believes that an event occurred when it did not. The theory pulls its name from the bizarre case of many people believing that Nelson Mandela died in prison when he did not.

Said Levy during pre-production, “THE MANDELA EFFECT is a timely and relatable topic which we think audiences will really gravitate towards, and we are excited to make this into a heady sci-fi film that will ooze with indie spirit.”

THE MANDELA EFFECT stars Charlie Hofheimer (FOR ALL MANKIND, 24: LEGACY, MAD MEN), Aleksa Palladino (BOARDWALK EMPIRE, HALT AND CATCH FIRE, BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU’RE DEAD), and Robin Lord Taylor (GOTHAM, JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3 – PARABELLUM).

The music is provided by the Canadian songwriting and film scoring partners Justin Small and Ohad Benchetrit [left] (PREY [documentary], BRAVEN, THIS IS NOT A MOVIE). They also play in the mostly-instrumental Toronto post-rock band Do Make Say Think, and also write separately for films. THE MANDELA EFFECT may be their most ambitious scoring project to date.

The psychological science fiction thriller had its world premiere at the Other Worlds Film Festival last October 23rd; it is set to open in theaters and on VOD December 6, 2019.
