Brian Tyler Scoring the Animated Comedy THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE

From Nintendo and Illumination comes a new animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros. THE SUPER MARIO BROS. The feature film adaptation of the popular video game involves a plumber named Mario who travels through an underground labyrinth with his brother, Luigi, trying to save a captured princess.

This is the third feature film adaptation of Nintendo’s Mario video game franchise, following the anime film SUPER MARIO BROS.: THE GREAT MISSION TO RESCUE PRINCESS PEACH! (1986) and the Hollywood live-action film SUPER MARIO BROS. (1993). The film is being directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel and features an ensemble voice cast including Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, Seth Rogen, Fred Armisen, Kevin Michael Richardson, Sebastian Maniscalco, and Charles Martinet.

It’s been confirmed that Brian Tyler (BUBBA HO-TEP, AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES, POWER RANGERS, 7 of the FAST & FURIOUS movies) is set to compose the score for the film, collaborating with Japanese composer Koji Kondo, best known for his numerous contributions to the SUPER MARIO and LEGEND OF ZELDA series of video games, among others.

The SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE is scheduled to be released by Universal Pictures on April 7, 2023 in the United States, followed by release in Japan on April 28. It will be available to stream on Peacock 45 days afterwards.
