Marvel’s WandaVision Trailer Released – Christopher Beck (ANT MAN) Scores the Series

Yesterday, Marvel released the new trailer to WandaVision, a new web television miniseries created for Disney+ by Jac Schaeffer and based on the Marvel Comics characters Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Vision. The show is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films of the franchise. The events of the series take place after the 2019 film AVENGERS: ENDGAME.
Composer Christopher Beck has been attached to the project since last January; this will be his first MCU web series; previously he scored the MCU feature films ANTMAN and ANTMAN AND THE WASP.
Writing Sunday in an detailed online article about the trailer, entitled “Breaking Down WandaVision’s First Reality-Warping Trailer” for gizmodo, Charles Pulliam-Moore writes “WandaVision’s first trailer is the sort of thing that reads completely differently depending on the degree to which you’re familiar with the characters’ histories in the comics and how much Nick @ Night or TV Land you grew up watching. If this new look is any indication, the show (starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany) is going to be exquisitely dense.”
As evidenced by the trailer, Wanda and Vision are “every bit your prototypical American sitcom TV couple, with the obvious oddity being that Wanda and Vision aren’t a pair of characters plucked out of I LOVE LUCY or LEAVE IT TO BEAVER,” Pulliam-Moore continues. “Up until this point, it was rather safe to assume that Vision was quite dead following the events of Infinity War, but here he is, dipping his wife and wearing a wristwatch as if nothing’s amiss.”
The trailer may confuse more than it enchants, but at the very least it shows that this corner of the MCU is going to be very strange, rather funny, pinging on numerous references in the comic book history of both characters, and no doubt highly entertaining. Pulliam-Moore concludes:
“Off-kilter a show as WandaVision wants to be, there’s likely plenty more to the series that will play a key role in its plot and shape the future of the MCU. People forget that whenever Wanda has episodes like these, they don’t exactly happen in a vacuum, and there’s always a villain lurking not too far from her when she’s most vulnerable.” Read his full article here.
WANDAVISION was scheduled to premiere in December, but that may change to sooner or later, as things go. The limited series will consist of six episodes, and it will be the first series in Phase Four of the MCU.
