Blake Neely & Sherri Chun to score The CW’s BATWOMAN
– Randall D. Larson
Since the advent of ARROW in 2014, composer Blake Neely has scored all of The CW’s connected super hero shows, moving into THE FLASH, SUPERGIRL, and LEGENDS OF TOMORROW and maintaining the same kind of interactive thematic structure between the shows that the writers and showrunners have maintained by keeping the shows all in the same universe. (Ruby Rose, as Batwoman, was introduced last December on the “Elseworlds” Arrowverse crossover event spanning episodes of THE FLASH, ARROW, and SUPERGIRL on The CW).
But to keep up with the demand and the deadlines entailed by scoring so many series – not to mention also doing BLINDSIDED, RIVERDALE, THE REDLINE, and several other series at the same time – Neely has created a team to support his efforts by writing additional music using his basic themes and motifs. Among them is Sherri Chun, who along with Nathaniel Blume and Daniel James Chan, joined Neely in 2015 and have been mainstays on all his shows since then, starting out orchestrating, then assisting with additional music and eventually becoming co-credited composers on the shows.
Sherri Chun, who had focused largely on RIVERDALE, THE RED LINE, and scoring her own limited series, PISS OFF I LOVE YOU, in 2018, currently has co-composer credit with Neely on CW’s forthcoming BATWOMAN series.
Series Summary: Kate Kane (Ruby Rose), armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope in the evident absence of Batman.
The show will premiere on Sundays this Fall.
CW released their first trailer on BATMAN on May 16th – have a look at it below:
