Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein Return to Score STRANGER THINGS Season 4

– Randall D. Larson

A cryptic teaser trailer has been released by Netflix for the upcoming fourth season of the science fiction/horror television series STRANGER THINGS. “Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more,” said the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, back in February of 2020. “Although it’s not all good news for our ‘American;’ [Hopper] is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, Russia, where he will face dangers both human… and other. Meanwhile, back in the States, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything…” [Entertainment Weekly 2/14/20]

“The [teaser’s] footage is entirely set in the Hawkins National Laboratory, where gifted children are being experimented on,” John Squires stated yesterday in BloodyDisgusting. “One of them is Eleven, suggesting origin story elements in Season 4.” Dr. Brenner, alive and seemingly in charge at Hawkins, is heard talking to some children in the lab: “I have something very special planned for you. Eleven, are you listening?” Conjecture suggests this may suggest that the fourth season includes flashbacks from Eleven’s origin.

“Filming on season 4 continues after going on hiatus while the industry maneuvered around COVID-19 safety protocols,” wrote Nick Romano yesterday in Entertainment Weekly. “The new story will take us to Russia where Hopper, who survived the events of season 3, is being held at Kamchatka by operatives. Creators Matt and Ross Duffer further teased a ‘new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything.’”

The fourth season’s cast includes Robert Englund, who will play Victor Creel, a disturbed man who is imprisoned in a psychiatric hospital for a gruesome murder in the 1950’s. The season’s first episode is titled “Chapter One: The Hellfire Club.”

White Bear PR, who represents composers Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein, confirmed they are on board to compose the music for the show’s fourth season, having defined the series’ unnerving musical design with their scores for the first three.

As of yet there is no premiere date for STRANGER THINGS 4. While both Seasons 1 and 2 have been issued on DVD/Blu-Ray, 2019’s Season 3 has given no signs yet of a home video release.
