Marco Beltrami & Crew Score animated s.f. drama PANTHEON

Marco Beltrami and frequent collaborators Buck Sanders and Brandon Roberts have jointly composed music PANTHEON, a new sci-fi animated series for AMC+. The show’s voice talent includes Daniel Dae Kim, Paul Dano, Rosemarie DeWitt, Katie Chang, and others.

Created by Craig Silverstein and based on the short stories by Ken Liu in in The Apocalypse Triptych, the series focuses on Maddie (Chang), a bullied teen who receives mysterious help from someone online. The stranger is soon revealed to be her recently deceased father, David (Kim), whose consciousness has been uploaded to the Cloud following an experimental destructive brain scan. David is the first of a new kind of being: an “Uploaded Intelligence” or “UI,” but he will not be the last, as a global conspiracy unfolds that threatens to trigger a new kind of world war.

“I’m very excited to finally share this incredibly innovative show from creator Craig Silverstein,” Marco Beltrami wrote in an Instagram post. “The score was completely electronically scored based on sounds created by Buck, who really did a great job capturing the feel of the show.”

“PANTHEON weaves a sci-fi mystery about grief and morally slippery technology” wrote Cheryl Eddy on Gizmodo. In a review of the first episode written by Caroline Framke in Variety, “For any adult still avoiding animation out of some stubborn refusal to understand its advantages as a both visual and storytelling medium, PANTHEON makes its ambitions known from the get-go. After the eerie opening theme, scoring a fluorescent string of code smashing through a Greek statue, the show cuts to a high-school classroom, where a blunt voiceover lays the stakes bare. ‘Most of the girls in my class completely missed the moment when the world began to end,’ teen outcast Maddie Kim (Chang) tells us…”

The series premiered September 1st on AMC+ and runs for 8 episodes.
