Disney’s CRUELLA Scored by Nicholas Britell
Disney’s upcoming family crime-comedy drama CRUELLA features a score by Nicholas Britell (MOONLIGHT, IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK, SUCCESSION, THE BIG SHORT). Directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Emma Stone, Emma Thompson, and Mark Strong, the movie of course is based on the deliciously malevolent character from Disney’s 101 DALMATIONS. The movie is set in 1970s London and focuses on young fashion designer Cruella de Vil as she becomes obsessed with dogs’ skins, especially dalmatians, until she eventually becomes a ruthless and terrifying legend.
In addition to musically interpolating the Queen of Mean, Brittel is also set to score Disney’s THE LION KING, as well as the Amazon limited series THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD, based on Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book of the same title centering on a young slave on a cotton plantation in Georgia, and Adam McKay’s comedy DON’T LOOK UP for Netflix. He also continues to score the McKay-produced HBO series SUCCESSION (returning for its third season).
CRUELLA is set to be released in theaters on May 28, 2021 by Walt Disney Pictures and will also be available to purchase as a Premiere Access title on Disney+ on the same day.
