Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio Scored by Alexandre Desplat – Behind the Craft Video Posted Today

GUILLERMO DEL TORO’S PINOCCHIO (or simply PINOCCHIO) is an upcoming stop-motion animated musical fantasy drama film directed by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Gustafson, and written by del Toro and Patrick McHale. Based on Gris Grimly’s design from his 2002 edition of the 1883 Italian novel The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, it marks the animated feature film directorial debut of del Toro. The film stars the voices of Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, Gregory Mann, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman, Christoph Waltz and Tilda Swinton.

The film has been a long time coming due to extensive stop-motion animation work. As reported by FilmMusicReporter back in 2020, Alexandre Desplat began composing the film’s score, as well as writing original songs for the movie. Desplat and del Toro collaborated previously collaborated on the director’s THE SHAPE OF WATER.

Today’s release of a “Behind the Craft” video prompts this updated post, as del Toro takes viewers inside the stop-motion magic behind his whimsical Pinocchio movie. GUILLERMO DEL TORO’S PINOCCHIO premieres on Netflix this December.
