Production is now firmly underway on Denis Villeneuve’s ambitious adaptation of the iconic sci-fi novel DUNE, as a report in Collider announced on March 18. The film is set to be released worldwide on November 20, 2020 by Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment. It is based on Frank Herbert novel of the same name which was filmed twice previously – by David Lynch in 1984 (music by rock band Toto, with main theme by Brian & Roger Eno) and as a TV miniseries in 2000 (scored by Graeme Revell and Tim Simonec) followed by a 3-episode sequel, CHILDREN OF DUNE, in 2003 (scored by Brian Tyler). The new film will star Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. The film also features Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem.

Villeneuve (ARRIVAL, SICARIO, BLADE RUNNER 2049) has previously said that this is the first half of a two-part adaptation of DUNE, according to Collider, but thus far Warner Bros. hasn’t acknowledged that a second film has been greenlit. A press release also reveals that Hans Zimmer will be composing the score, reuniting with Villeneuve after he co-composed the score for Villeneuve’s BLADE RUNNER 2049 with Benjamin Wallfisch.
