A Tribute to Joel Goldsmith (1957-2012)
AsturScore, the film music website from Spain, has posted a tribute to film composer Joel Goldsmith, son of Jerry Goldsmith who was well known in his own right for scoring such projects as TV’s numerous STARGATE series, THE UNTOUCHABLES, WITCHBLADE, and HELEN OF TROY, the science fiction thriller MOON 44, the family friendly SHILOH, Steve Martin’s comedy THE MAN WITH TWO BRAINS, the bittersweet comedy DIAMONDS, and contributed to his father’s score for STAR TREK: FIRST CONTACT. AstureScore asked several of us to contribute our remembrances. Joel, whose untimely passing six years ago last April 29 at the young age of 54, as one of the contributors wrote, “was not fair play…, a stroke when he was excelling, destined to reach total maturity.” We remember him, with affection and continue to admire his music, drawn from a career whose curtain had drawn all too soon.Read the tribute, in English, here.
